Caharin was the title given to Richard Rahl when he passed the test presented to him by Du Chaillu of the Baka Ban Mana. Although he saved her life Du Chaillu and the rest of her people viewed him as just another "magic man" with whom all the Baka Ban Mana were sworn to kill. The one to call the past into the present and dance with the spirits would come and defeat 30 of their finest warriors and would then be known as the Caharin.
To the Baka Ban Mana, the Caharin was the husband to their leader. When Richard came to visit the Baka Ban Mana, their leader was Du Chaillu and thereafter considered him her husband. Richard refused to recognize this claim.
