A Hedge Maid is a mysterious magic user from the Dark Lands in D'Hara. They are incredibly dangerous, as Nicci warns Richard that he has no defense against one, and must avoid them at all costs. No magic can affect them, including the Sword of Truth and a Confessor's touch. Their magic comes from the Underworld, and therefore is the magic of death. Their mouths are sewn shut before they learn to speak, as their voice is fatal to all who hear it, including themselves. The only known Hedge Maid is Jit.
