High D'Haran was an ancient, long dead language formally used throughout the world. Very few people know the language, and most of those are D'Haran. Many notable books of prophecy concerning current events were written in High D'Haran, most of which were mentioned in Chainfire.

Characters that know High D'Haran[]

Richard Rahl was forced to start learning the language in Blood of the Fold, and learned more when he translated a journal from the ancient times in the Wizard's Keep with the help of Berdine.

Darken Rahl was Richard's father and learned High D'Haran on his own, though he occasionally enlisted the aid of Berdine, mainly to validate his interpretation of a passage. Darken Rahl was described by Berdine as a "master of High D'Haran".

Nathan Rahl was a nearly 1000 year old prophet who was an ancestor of Richard who acquired this knowledge long ago.

Warren had a rudimentary knowledge of High D'Haran.

Nicci was well versed in the language due to her studies as a Sister of the Light.

Berdine also knew some High D'Haran. Her father taught her the language before he was killed because Darken Rahl was paranoid about anybody knowing High D'Haran except him and Berdine who was already under his control.
