Shields

Shields are magical protections or barriers created by the gifted to protect themselves, others, or certain items from harm. Non-gifted people cannot break through shields unless accompanied by someone with sufficient strength in the gift to pass through the particular shield. Exceptionally powerful shields, are passable only to a handful of the gifted, who possess more power than the gifted who placed the shield in the first place. Shields that were placed with the aid of Subtractive Magic are impenetrable even to the most highly skilled of the modern day Additive wielding gifted. Pristinely ungifted individuals are able to move through any Additive shield as if it did not exist.
