I just re-read the end of the book, and the death scene previously described in this article (hit over the head by the woman with the wounded leg, wielding a piece of the broken statue) is that of Brother Neal. Narev's own death is never recorded. The fight between Narev and Richard concludes thus:
- Narev freed a leg and brought his knee up into Richard's wound.
- The world went white with pain.
(It then cuts to a scene with Nicci, Kadar, and Cara.) The next mention of Narev is as a body lying on the ground near Richard:
- Nicci was shocked to see the bodies strewn on the floor around them. Sister Alessandra, Brother Neal, Brother Narev. She knew by the way Richard looked that there was precious little time--if it was not already too late.
Did Goodkind leave out the conclusion of their conflict so that we wouldn't know if Narev actually died? When the world goes "white with pain," does Narev also pass out? It is unclear. I have read through it several times, so I'm sure I didn't miss anything; does anyone else have any thoughts or observations on the death of Brother Narev?
Just to be clear, we do know for a fact that Narev dies (since his head is sent to Aydindril on a pike to greet Jagang upon his arrival there), just not how (since his death is never described; see above post).
