The Towers of Perdition were a long line of towers in the Valley of the Lost that were built by wizards in the Great War three thousand years ago in order to sustain spells of all kinds in hopes to seal off the enemy from their land. Inside each tower there was a pile of either white or black sorcerer's sand. Neither side could complete their line of towers, however, because no wizard could get close enough to the line to build the last tower without getting killed. The gap created was what allowed the Sisters of the Light to pass through the Valley with their charges to and from the New World. Richard Rahl destroyed the Towers of Perdition.
You could only pass through the towers two times or else the power of the towers would destroy you. After the second time the spells recognize the gifted person trying to pass.
