Wizard's First Rule chapter three summary and miscellaneous information.
Synopsis[]
Kahlan and Richard arrive at Michael Cypher's house. While Richard's clothing is sweaty and dirty Kahlan's white full length dress is mysteriously spotlessly clean. Kahlan is surprised that fire is so commonplace in Westland.
The two travellers are met by Dell "Chase" Brandstone, Richard's lifelong friend. Dell and Richard are confused by Michael's decision to use the Boundary Wardens for this event, due to the more appropriate forces available to him. Dell expresses his concern that unknown people have been seen coming and going in the night with no explanation.
Dell listens to their story of the attack and informs them that Zedd wants to speak to Richard. He cautions them not to tell Michael of the days events.
Once the two are inside the building Kahlan asks why serving girls have long hair, and confesses that no one has ever asked her to cut her hair, since in the Midlands hair length is a measure of social significance. She politely dodges the question of whether her very long hair is a sign she is an important person in the Midlands, and they begin to eat.
Kahlan notices that people are watching Richard closely, and says that being with her is putting him in danger. Richard attempts to reassure her that no-one could track her through the boundary, but she explains her tracks had been magically concealed before she had gone through the boundary, yet the Quad had still managed to track her down.
Richard explains they will need to talk to Zedd for a solution to her problem.
Michael appears and gives his acceptance speech for position of First Councillor. The speech unexpectedly contains a message of war, conspiracy, the fall of the boundaries and fire as a dangerous and evil thing.
Richard is extremely confused by the idea of war in Westland, and upset that his brother used their father and mother's death in a political speech. Michael argues with Richard before sexually assaulting Kahlan in full view of everyone in the room. Kahlan drives him off using her fingernail before storming out.
